Thriving On Change
By Ada Porat

It has been said that change is the only constant in life.  Change is taking place everywhere around us, all the time.  As we navigate the winds of change, we all need support:  whether going through a divorce, recovering from an illness, embarking on a spiritual awakening or starting over in a new community.

All forms of change require us to learn new ways of being and functioning. One of the most valuable gifts you can give yourself during times of change is to find appropriate support.  A basic understanding of the learning process that moves us through change will boost your ability to find meaningful support for every stage of your journey.

Humans move through three core stages in every area of change and growth – whether you are trying out a new sport or adjusting to life after losing a loved one. You may find yourself at a beginning stage in one area or your life and an advanced stage in other areas of your life.  Success lies in being able to determine how your personal learning needs to be support with appropriate feedback, support or adjustment.  When we get stuck in any one stage, growth stagnates.

Beginning Stage – Knowledge

The beginning stage of learning or change is the thinking or cognitive stage. This is the stage where you may decide to learn more about something - perhaps you choose to explore spiritual realities and delve into many traditions, teachings and materials. During this stage, you spend a lot of time acquiring information, processing new concepts mentally, and figuring out how everything fits together.

During the beginning phase, personal growth tends to be sporadic, uncoordinated and often somewhat lopsided – not unlike watching a toddler taking their first solo steps.  Mistakes are common and it is often difficult to filter out irrelevant information, since discernment is a skill that gets refined with time and practice.  You may get overwhelmed easily when there are too many things happening in your life at one time or if you put pressure on yourself.

One of the most valuable forms of support during this phase is to ask for constructive feedback and encouragement from others.  You can also support your own progress by giving yourself room and grace to fail, and making a commitment to keep going after each setback.  Repeated effort provides the practice needed to become more familiar with the new skill or learning.

Intermediate Stage - Application

In the intermediate stage, you start applying what you have learned so far to implement meaningful change into your life.  You now move beyond simply knowing about things into practical application of your knowledge; you experiment with new and different ways of being in order to live it.  During this phase, you start connecting the dots in your learning.  With the experience gained from practical application, you start shifting your perspective to embrace new attitudes. On the spiritual journey, this stage finds you moving out of the intellect and into the heart, from where you start clearing away everything that is illumined by your emerging Higher Awareness as no longer useful.

During the application stage, you may try many different approaches to your goal before experiencing a sense of accomplishment. Clients looking for tools of self-transformation often experiment with different meditation techniques or forms of exercise during this stage.  Since practical application brings about real-world outcomes, you may also become acutely aware of the external environment in which you operate.  This heightened sensitivity can bring with it a strong need for external encouragement on your progress to build confidence and assurance. If not balanced with your personal convictions, this need for external affirmation can evolve into expectations of external validation that may erode your personal power.

On the journey of personal growth, you will spend most of your time in this stage, continuously challenging and clearing outdated beliefs to facilitate continued growth. Constructive feedback becomes vitally important and you may rely on a few trusted sources for feedback.  There is also a need to balance input from others with increasing responsibility for your own growth.  You take on more responsibility by actively maintaining balance, clearing out dissonant beliefs, aligning to your core truths and reconciling your inner life with outer differences.

Advanced Stage - Integration

In advanced states of learning, you take full responsibility for your actions and your behavior becomes self-regulating. You have moved from the stage of knowing about things, to doing it, and now you are becoming it.   You no longer look outside yourself for affirmation, guidance and support, but find it through your ever-present connection to Source.  Listening and dialoging with the Divine Presence within, becomes an automatic, on-going process that facilitates personal diagnosis and adjustment in areas of imbalance whenever needed.

Functioning at this level brings about a keen awareness of your interconnectedness to all forms of life.  This emerging awareness makes you highly effective at being a positive influence for change, shifting the level of consciousness around you simply through the sum total of what you have become. At this level, growth or development may be incremental and may appear smaller, because the individual deals with fine-tuning and deep inner work that may not be visible to others.

The next time you feel a little lost on your path, take a look at which stage of learning you are at in the area where you feel wobbly.  Then, find support that will offer you appropriate correction and feedback for that stage of your process.  You’ll be amazed at the difference this awareness brings!

Transforming Your Life From Within

Transforming Your Life From Within

By Ada Porat

The world you create around you is a direct reflection of the value that you place on yourself.

Before you can have a different life; before you can be happier, wiser, be more at peace and in quiet command of yourself, you must first be different.

Being is everything.

Everything on earth and beyond - animated or not - all forms are an expression of one great Intelligence, Creative Energy or Being.  Even rock and plants have being-ness, a consciousness.  All things created are unique expressions of this One Creator Being.

The being-ness or consciousness of everything that is created, expresses aspects of the Creator through its very nature.  And that consciousness is not fixed. It can be transformed.  Each of us is created with the power to evolve our consciousness through the exercise of free choice.

Your consciousness is in a continuous process of unfolding. It is intrinsic to everything in the Universe to evolve spontaneously in response to prevailing conditions.  So you are creating your life at every given moment, whether you are aware of it or not.  Just how the rest of your life unfolds, is something you can influence through your awareness and the choices you make.

The very first thing to recognize in order to transform your life is the eternal value of your nature.  You are not a simply a blob of bio-plasma:  you are an expression of Divinity and within your very being the spark of that awareness always remains present.

When you find yourself disappointed, beaten down and overwhelmed by the forces of life, it is because you have momentarily forgotten the true origin of your Source and the magnificence of your destiny!  Your intrinsic value is Divine and can never be destroyed!

This point was illustrated beautifully by a well-known speaker who started off his seminar by holding up a $20 bill.  In the packed hall, he asked, "Who would like this $20?"

Hands started going up.  He said, "I am going to give this bill to one of you, but first let me do this."

He proceeded to crumple the note. He then asked, "Who still wants it?"  Still the hands were up in the air.

"Well," he replied, "What if I do this?"  And he dropped the bill to the stage and ground it into the floor with his shoe.  Then he picked it up again, all crumpled and dirty. "Now who still wants it?"  Still the hands went into the air.

His demonstration drove home a very valuable lesson. No matter what he did to the money, the audience still wanted it because it did not decrease in intrinsic value. It was still worth $20.

Many times in our lives, we are dropped, crumpled, and ground into the dirt by the decisions we made and the circumstances that came our way.  We may have felt damaged or worthless.  But no matter what happens to you in life, you can never lose your intrinsic value!

You are an aspect of the Divine Creator embodied in a physical body, and therein is your value. Don't ever forget it!  Never let yesterday's disappointments overshadow tomorrow's dreams.

The second principle to transforming your life, is to become aware of that secret place within yourself where the Divine Presence dwells.  You must consciously enter that place of power within where your conscious awareness interacts with the Divine Presence.  That is your place of power, the place from where your reality is created moment by moment.  It contains the awareness of All That Is in this present moment.  It is where your inner guidance dwells, in the Eternal Now.

It's only what you do right at this moment, right now, that carries the seed of personal change. And in the endless beauty and mystery of the Eternal Now, this seed of change is held in your Higher consciousness as your on-going reality.

If you choose something in the Eternal Now, you won't have to worry about what may await in the future:  your conscious choice to live in the present moment automatically eliminates the need to strive toward some future goal.  Why?  Because everything you choose in the Eternal Now, remains there for you to experience whenever you are in the present moment – and this is the only time it really matters!

Being in the present moment is critical to manifestation.  If you are locked into regrets over the past or living in anxiety over the future, you will have no place to ground that which you create within.  Creation becomes possible when your consciousness is present in the eternal "Now" of Divine potential, and you align yourself to the unfolding of your highest potential in that space.

The third principle of transforming your life is to consider all your creations with gratitude. Are you grateful for the life you have created so far, or can you only see what is lacking in it?

Gratitude and appreciation connect us to the Divine Source of All.  Just as the Creator pronounced each day’s creation as good before moving on to the next day, we need to take time to reflect over what we have created in our lives.

Why did we choose to draw specific circumstances into our lives?  What do they bring to teach us? Perhaps the breakup of the relationship that we bewail as terrible, offers us the opportunity for further growth and maturing.  And could it be that we created limited finances to experience the sufficiency of the Eternal Now?  When viewed from a higher perspective, everything we create in our lives serves a purpose in the development of our souls.

To summarize, the process of transformation starts with the recognition of your True Nature, is activated by connecting to that Source inside your being, and is nurtured by offering gratitude and appreciation for everything you have created.  Once you understand these principles, you are well on your way to transforming your life from within.  Here are some additional guidelines to assist you:

Step Off The Treadmill

Dare to slow down.  Even at a million miles an hour, anxious thoughts and feelings still take you nowhere.  Instead, take time to be still and to reflect.  If you want to find the timeless, dare to live as though you have all the time in the world.  Step out of the rush and into the Eternal Now.

Take Responsibility For Your Experience

The way you feel toward the life experiences you encounter is a direct expression of who you are and what you value.  If you don’t like what you are encountering, choose again from the core of your values and the awareness of your truest being, and you will find yourself drawing different outcomes.

Refuse To Compromise

Let go of any thought or action that creates conflict in the present moment for the promise of a better feeling to come.  Reality is Now.  There is no later!  You can't find contentment by being divided.  Instead of compromising yourself, choose to be whole in the Now.

Remember Your Connection To Others

Even when it feels like you're the only one in the world who struggles with the human condition, you are not!  Reach out to others and learn from their experiences, draw on their support and offer them encouragement.  We’re all in this together!

Become The Best You Can

Anybody can follow the crowd, which usually operates on the lowest common denominator.  Make the commitment to yourself to live a life worthy of all the potential that is within you.  Dig deep to discover your greatness.  Give yourself permission to shine!

Let Go Of Blame

When your feet hurt because your shoes are too tight, you don't complain that someone else made you put them on.  So why blame another when it's your feelings that are hurting you?  If painful emotions hurt you, then let them go!  You'll feel lots better.

Keep It Light

When the heart and the mind are not in agreement, we can get pulled down into the dense emotions of fear, anxiety or worry. Remember that your true nature is Divine, and that there is nothing Divine to be found by indulging in dense thoughts or emotions.  Instead, allow yourself to skip along the hallways of Life with a song in your heart, and the appropriate doors will open up!

Finding Spiritual Guidance

Finding Spiritual Guidance

By Ada Porat

There is spiritual guidance all around us… are you listening for it?
Spiritual guidance is not restricted to any specific time or space.  It is available at all times, everywhere.  It is found in casual conversation, in books that fall into our hands, in "wrong" numbers dialed… always available when we listen. After all, we believe that the Divine presence is everywhere, so why would the Divine voice of guidance not be everywhere, too?  And it is, provided we are not too busy to listen!
I find that listening to my inner guidance can save a lot of time and effort. Being goal-oriented, I used to have a tendency to move ahead before clear guidance has been given.  I soon learned that trying to hasten the outcome only inhibits my ability to receive true guidance and may even delay the outcome.
I found that the wisest move is to simply step back from the frenetic activity and to return to center.  From that place of inner balance, guidance gently emerges to lead my steps, and life flows with synchronicity and ease.
Maintaining neutrality is also important for receiving inner guidance. In kinesiology testing, attitudes of judgment or skepticism are found to calibrate at a level that undermines the expression of truth and can be destructive.  When we ask for confirmation of guidance, it is important to do so from an attitude of desiring to know and align with truth, and to be detached from the outcome.
When we are open and receptive, we are more inclined to recognize guidance we are given throughout the day.  If someone tells you about something, ask yourself, "How does this apply to me?" or, "Is there something I need to learn here?"
Inner guidance can come in many ways, some of which may surprise you!  I have had people tell me how they were asking for guidance in a difficult situation, only to have the business card of someone who could help, fall from a wallet.  At times, I have asked for clarity on an issue, and when the phone rang a few minutes later, the caller presented the solution to the issue without any prior knowledge of my predicament!

Guidance often arrives in synchronistic ways.  One of the funniest examples happened to me on a first date.  Throughout the evening, I felt vaguely uncomfortable with the person I was with:  he was doing and saying all the appropriate things, yet I could not shake a vague sense that I there was something amiss.  I silently asked for guidance and clarity.

Soon after, my companion decided to perform a karaoke song and as he was singing, the words of the song hit me like a ton of bricks: “…these boots are made for walking, I’m gonna walk all over you!”  The instant I heard the words, a sense of profound clarity came over me and I knew they expressed a deeper meaning about the person’s intent.  I found out later that the person indeed had a reputation for taking advantage of others.

At times, we may not feel comfortable enough to act on the initial guidance given and so we may ask for confirmation. Doubting ourselves is very human and we may feel a need for confirmation before acting on the guidance received.  I am always encouraged by the Biblical story of Gideon who put out a fleece at night and asked for his guidance to be confirmed by the dew falling everywhere except for on the fleece.  At the appropriate time, the guidance was confirmed.

While driving home one day, I noticed that someone had posted bright cardboard signs along the road, directing traffic to a yard sale on my street. There were signs posted at all the major intersections approaching my neighborhood – every place where drivers had to choose which way to go.

I realized that spiritual guidance comes to us the same way – there are always signs to guide us at the important intersections in life.  When we don’t see the signs we’re looking for, we are perhaps just not in need of those directions yet, and we can go with the flow.  When it is time, the necessary guidance will appear!

I use a very practical method to receive guidance. Whenever I am not sure what to do, I say to the Universe, "Just show me what I am to do here. I’m willing to do whatever is in the best interest of everyone involved. Give me a clue, and I will follow." Then I release the situation. I give up any preconceived notion about how things are supposed to turn out, and when I am supposed to know. Sometimes the answer comes instantly and sometimes it takes a while, but it always comes.

Spiritual guidance always arrives at the appropriate time, although recognizing it may require some adjustment in our expectations.  To understand this, we can look at the two different words used for “time” in Greek.  The first is chronos, which is equivalent to our concept of time as a chronological sequence of seconds, minutes, and hours. The second word is kairos, which can best be translated as "Divine timing" or "appropriate timing."

In our culture, we tend to live in chronological time, yet guidance emerges outside of chronos with the synchronicity of Divine timing. When we shift our perspective away from the linear paradigm of chronological time, we discover that guidance and answers always arrive at the perfect time.

When seeking direction, simply ask for guidance. Then allow the answer to show up in its appropriate way, place, and time.  If, upon voicing your request, you do not hear a voice from heaven bellowing, "This is what you must do!" don’t freak out. Allow for Divine timing to deliver your answer at the appropriate time. It will surely come!

Getting Unstuck

Getting Unstuck
By Ada Porat

Are you feeling stuck in your life? Frustrated? Do you feel like you’re going down for the third time?

Take a moment to really feel what is going on. You are not stuck… you are constrained. Yes, the old way of doing things is no longer working, and you are trying to adjust to radically new ways of looking at life, doing things, and living.

Throughout this time of constraint and upheaval, there are unseen forces holding you steady while you try to run this new kind of energy… the energy of oneness with Divine purpose. It is a Divine connection, hosted in a human shell. Long ago, before you ever came into this life, you chose to embody this energy at this time. This is your contribution to the shift of the ages, and now is your time to fulfill that agreement.

The energy of Divine oneness or unity is the most powerful force in the Universe. It is powerful enough to constrain you when you try to separate from Divine guidance at your core and assert your human will.

In the old way of life, we accomplished our desired goals by asserting our human, egoic wills in our external reality. We were conditioned to be willful and determined, wanting whatever we chose to have when we decided to have it. This way no longer works. When we assert our human, egoic will in the new energy that surrounds us now, the obstacles we encounter are numerous.

To move past the constraints of the present, we have to give up the drive to accomplish things by sheer force of will. Instead, we need to yield to trust: trust in the Divine, in Divine Guidance, in Spirit, in God, in the Universe… whatever you choose to call the essential life force energy.

When we choose to trust, the energy of the egoic will and resistance yield to a bigger plan - the higher picture of Divine perfection. From the plane of trust, we are able to flow with the creative energies around us, participating in the process of creating a higher reality than we could ever conceive of before.

It is no longer possible to more forward in ego and still make spiritual progress. The constraining force of Spirit will block your movement at every turn. The inclination to be willful needs to be surrendered in order to move beyond the limitations of the egoic self. When we insist on operating from ego, we only end up hurting ourselves.

It is possible for Spirit to get you through this time of transition, no matter how difficult it feels. Those same unseen forces that hold you steady now, can and will lift you out of your pit of despair. All it takes is for you to let go of the old way of using power willfully through the ego, and to embrace the path of faith, the pathway of trust and allowing.

We are living in a very different reality now than we’d been in even five years ago. The old life with its hopes, dreams and loved ones, has been filed away in the archives of All That Is. To keep looking for it, merely deters our progress forward. We are in a new way of life now; mulling over the old ways with endless analysis, mourning and regrets will bring no comfort.

The more we try to recreate the past, the more we’ll find ourselves drawn down into the traps of ego like quicksand, our energy levels sinking into a quagmire of confusion and struggle.

Instead, now is the time to embrace what is showing up in your life moment by moment. Look for new ways to reframe things, new tools to do things with. Go inward. Drink deep from the wellspring of life. Let the timeless wisdom and healing energy of sacred teachings wash over you to renew your soul. Develop a dialogue with Spirit and ask for guidance and clarity. Stay present in the moment and allow the answers to flow to you through circumstances.

When action is indicated, do it. When circumstances open up for you, move forward. And when doors close, don’t try to break through them. Sometimes, we need to spend a while living in the in-between – learning to let go of the need to control, the need to logically understand. At times like these, we need to ask ourselves what we really want and why…even as we surrender the need to know how it will come about. We need to simply be present, be patient, and be still.

For years, I would ask Spirit to help me understand the why and how of life’s senseless tragedies. Invariably, the answer would come back in one cryptic word: “Trust.” Never before has the need to trust been more important for our personal well-being than now. Outside ourselves, the whole world is going through a spin cycle now. Just as we are experiencing at the microscopic level, willfulness and ego needs to be eliminated on a global scale as well to make space for a new order of trust and humility.

You don’t lack power. You are a powerful being. What you lack is remembrance. There is nothing wrong with you that complete remembrance will not heal. Like a survivor who has buried the unbearable agony of trauma beneath a layer of amnesia until they are ready to process it, we have chosen not to remember everything at once. As we proceed on the path we are shown, more is revealed to us. Through the integration and healing of each memory that surfaces, we reclaim our wholeness and power.

During this time of transition at every level of society, there are some helpful guidelines to keep us on track. Here are a few reminders:

Stay Detached

When we become emotionally attached to a desired cause or outcome, we become vulnerable to the trappings of the ego. Acknowledge your feelings and then surrender them to the Divine will so you can stay aligned to your life source.

Set Clear Boundaries

Social pressure always tries to make us conform to the expectations of others. Defining your boundaries protects your power. You are not obligated to accommodate everyone; instead, your first commitment needs to honor your inner guidance. What is your truth in the situation? Are you compromising in order to be liked, accepted, or nice? You cannot find happiness by living your life to appease the expectations of others. Define how far you are willing to go, and then say no: No, I cannot have you as a house guest for a month; no, I am not able to able to serve have lunch with you today; no, I am not able to volunteer my time to sell Girl Scout cookies.

Stay Present

When we feel overwhelmed by the intensity of the present, we may choose to find refuge in the memories of the past or the dreams of the future. Neither serves us well. Now is the only time we have – life only happens in the now. Don’t let your fears and regrets rob you of the precious gift of staying present in the Now.

Listen to Yourself

Within you is the wisdom to address all the challenges of life. When you feel overwhelmed, slow down and focus on your body. Let the wisdom within show you what you really want. Ever found yourself ‘giving in’ to the requests of others while you feel a huge lump in your chest or stomach? You body is trying to tell you something. If you cannot maintain inner harmony while engaging in the activity, recognize your body’s signals and re-align with your personal truth. When you listen to your body, you will recognize the ‘right timing’ at the place where desire and opportunity intersect. There will always be peace and confidence there, enabling you to flow forward with grace and ease.

Finding Your Bliss

Finding Your Bliss
By Ada Porat

I teach about joy, peace and power not because I have mastered them, but because I am always learning how to bring more of these qualities of inner bliss into my own life.

My heart’s desire is to practice what I teach. And to the degree that I am able to live from my inner bliss, I am able to help others discover these qualities in their lives also.

Along the way, I’ve come to realize that finding one’s bliss is a way of life, not just something to acquire. Spiritual bliss is not about more pedicures, massages, or other forms of self-indulgence. It is not even about outer grooming or taking better care of my body. These activities represent very small slices of true bliss, but by no means all of it.

Inner bliss means something much deeper. It means living life from a place and in a way that nourishes and renews your body, mind and spirit continuously.

True bliss is about aligning one’s life with what brings one joy; choosing to do what energizes and renews one from the inside out. It means owning your inner truth and aligning your outer life to live from that inner wellspring of life.

As I started aligning my actions, choices, and behavior with my inner truth, something magical happened: I triggered a release of inner power that seemed to have been long dormant. I became more and more aware of a deep inner Presence that brought peace, joy and harmony to every area of my life. I started living from a place of spiritual bliss!

Sharing the way to this blissful space has become my passion. And yes, you can live from this space too!

All human beings have spiritual thirst: they desire to connect with their inner truth; they want to tap deep into the inner well of sacred power and joy that they may know about but don't know how to reach.

Living from that inner core of bliss requires that you make space for spirituality in your life. It may call for some serious spiritual and emotional housecleaning. I've had to clean out old beliefs and behaviors, getting rid of mental clutter and habits that lingered in the forgotten corners of my life. The resulting process of personal transformation has been worth it in every way!

Along the journey, I found my perspective shifting from self-judgment to healthy self-respect. The process redefined how I see life, myself, and others. It has clarified what healthy boundaries look like. It has also opened up the way for me to engage from that space of inner power, filling my life with the bliss of living my truth and loving it.

In your search for bliss, remember this: you were created to play big, not small. Playing big is your inherent birthright as a soul. Spirit is always ready to heap on you all the bliss you can stand, but you need to make space for it in your life.

If you want more joy and bliss in your life, I invite you to create space for it now, so you can enjoy living from that inner space of peaceful power!

Vibrational Healing

Ada Porat - Tuesday, September 30, 2008
By Ada Porat

“So you do vibrational healing, hmm… now what is it that you really do?” the accountant asked as he read my business card, then peered over his glasses at me.

Try answering that question with a pithy 10-second sound byte!

People often ask for a lucid explanation of how the vibrational frequencies of body, mind and spirit interact in the dance of healing. Here’s how I usually try to explain it.

Each one of us exists as a holographic, integrated system that consists of body, mind and spirit. Yet you are much more than the sum of your parts – what you are is pure Life Force energy, expressing life through these levels of being. All the information about your life on earth – the good, the bad and the ugly - is contained within the cellular blueprint of your body.

Your life story is held in the form of frequencies. Just as every object in the universe has an innate frequency, so every emotion, memory and feeling you experience also carries specific frequencies. If you magnify your cells down to the atomic level, you would see that you are made up of subtle bundles of informational energy. Quantum physics has also shown us how the basic building blocks of matter consist of light and sound. Every type of cell is in continuous communication with every other cell of the same type through the resonance of their innate frequency level.

The cells of your body are derived from the original stem cells that divided after conception. These stem cells differentiate into different organ cells by virtue of their biochemical predisposition. This innate capability to differentiate, accounts for why some cells turn into skin, others become organ cells, and so forth. In this way, cells truly are the basic building blocks of your holographic being: your totality of body, mind and spirit.

From the core of your physical cells, messages travel through 6,000 miles of neural pathways in the body. Beyond that, the electromagnetic field (often called the “aura”) radiates out around the body with yet more information held in its field, and flowing from there into ever more diffuse fields the further the energy travels out from the physical body. Collectively, these energy fields become a holographic vehicle for your existential experience in this lifetime.

So how do we know where we need to go in the body to clear out a disturbance? Most often, people focus on painful or annoying symptoms and try to make them go away. If you have a headache, you may choose to pop a pill. However, the headache is not the problem; it is merely a symptom of the problem. And once the pain killer wears off, the pain may well return. So what to do?

For lasting results, it is necessary to address the source of the problem instead of the symptoms. Scientific research at NIH and other institutions have found that the answer lies in the cells. Cellular DNA contains the complete genetic blueprint for the design and function of your physical body. The cells also hold the blueprint for your mental, emotional, and spiritual state. Your cells retain information of all your life experiences and your genetic heritage. Everything you have ever experienced - whether positive or negative - is programmed into these basic building blocks of life!

The conscious part of that information is stored in the conscious brain and consists of less than 10% of the total. The other 90% of that information is submerged deep within the subconscious which is held in the cellular memory. So the largest storage area in your being is not really the brain, but the cells!

Here is another surprise: you need more than food and rest to live! Your being was designed to require non-material nourishment in the form of love. It is the most critical form of nourishment for life! Cells have a limited number of receptor-sites available for neuropeptide proteins. When your cells are bombarded through repetitive thought patterns and beliefs that generate toxic emotional reactions such as anger, depression, or grief, there are fewer cellular receptor sites available to absorb nutrients, release toxins, and heal.

Abundant research shows how individuals who regularly give and receive love, enjoy vibrant health. This is one of the reasons why statisticians find higher longevity and health among individuals in committed relationships. Love literally fills your cells with life force, while the absence of love drains your life force.

Just as life continuously evolves, so your cells are also growing, changing and dying. They represent a perfect microscopic model of how our universe works. We have freedom to choose how we respond to this on-going process of evolution: either we flow with change or we resist it. Disease almost always reflects a person’s decision to resist the flow of life at some level, albeit subconsciously.

This nature of continuous change holds tremendous potential for renewal in our lives. Any change made in your cellular hologram will have a profound effect in healing. When slivers of trauma or shock are neutralized in your cellular memory, all physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual data on file is rapidly updated accordingly. As low, dense vibrational patterns are removed from the cellular memory and replaced with the life force energy of love, your being can be restored to its blueprint at every level!

Is it possible to over-do the process? In a world where allopathic medicine and medical intervention override the body’s natural healing and rhythm, this is a very valid question. We may be afraid of facing negative patterns in the cellular memory, thinking that it could be too overwhelming or painful.

Here’s the good news: Cells are built to throw off old patterns and integrate new patterns as part of their life cycle. Just as the body eliminates waste products through excretion, sweating or coughing, the cells are designed to energetically rid themselves of frequencies that no longer serve you in order to return to homeostasis.

In vibrational healing, your system’s innate wisdom determines just how much is released without sacrificing optimal balance and well-being. Old patterns of being are discarded and replaced by new, more appropriate ways of seeing, being and knowing. Your system will take as long as it needs to integrate so that you can ground the spiritual, mental and emotional transformations gradually. When you live your life consciously, you will notice that your cells always seek to release negative patterns and integrate positive ones.

Our bodies are designed to support health, harmony and connection among all parts. So why do we get sick or develop illnesses that won’t easily go away?

The unconscious patterns in your cells are constantly being triggered by current life experiences through the Law of Resonance, drawing to you matching life experiences. Not that you go looking for it – it happens spontaneously! Many of these frequencies are beneficial sources of strength, skill, ability and talent. However, resonances that keep you from experiencing your highest potential, will deplete and block your life force as long as they remain in the cells.

The innate state of being in the cells is one of harmony, balance and flow – as in the behavior of babies and small children. When we are exposed to high levels of shock, trauma, fear or other emotions that are difficult to process at the time, the brain will suppress these emotions by storing it in the subconscious field of the cells. Over time, these lower vibrational frequencies will cause the energy level of the cells to slow down, affecting the ability to assimilate life force energy and eventually culminating in pain or disease. This accumulation of collective pain, grief, fear and shame is what Eckhardt Tolle refers to as the Pain Body.

When left unaddressed, this accumulation of unprocessed emotion can wreak havoc with our lives and relationships by surfacing at the most unexpected times and causing us to act on our unexpressed pain and fear from the past, instead of responding to the events of the present moment. For healing to be effective, the imprint of the energetic disturbance needs to be cleared from every level of being – body, mind and spirit – in order for symptoms to clear up.

By identifying and releasing the old, stagnant emotions, the cells can return to their blueprint of harmony and flow. As we release what no longer is beneficial, our cells open up to embrace the full flowering of our potential. This is the journey from separation to wholeness, and it is an essential part of our growth in consciousness.

Surviving Change

Surviving Change
By Ada Porat

Changes are occurring around us at a rate that sometimes feels alarming. There are shifts and changes at every level of life: for some, it takes the form of deep inner shifts in perspective and meaning, while for others it appears as major external upheaval. For all of us, the process is marked by a shaking up of our foundation at every level. It is a time of cleansing and clearing in order to make way for the new, but even so, it’s terrifying!

Earth is approaching the end of a Grand Galactic Cycle wherein many cycles complete. For centuries, tribal elders and wisdom keepers have foretold the great Shift of the Ages that will culminate in 2012 on our earth calendar.

Earth has moved into the photon belt, a band of very high energy that surrounds our solar system. As a planet moves into this band of higher frequencies, it must lighten its own frequency in order to stay intact through that shift. The earth changes we are experiencing are part of that process. Mother Earth is sloughing off and forcing change in her inhabitants so that she and those of us inhabiting her, can survive.

Universal law holds that whatever happens on a macroscopic level is also reflected in the microscopic field of awareness held in our bodies. During times of cataclysmic change, you may be experiencing a sense of dread, fear, loss or emptiness. Some experience the energies of the shift as a profound sense of being in the Void, not understanding what is going on and unable to move out of it.

Change always triggers our deepest fears about life. When faced with the overwhelming nature of change flung at us by forces outside our control, we may feel lost, terrified and helpless. And yet, within the eye of chaos resides its gift: the gift of transformation. It is our response to the forces of change, that determines the outcome – whether devastation or transformation.

As humans, we may not have the ability to control what happens to us, but we always have free choice in how we will respond to it. During times of external crisis, the bravery and dedication of rescue workers touch hearts and restore a sense of comfort and hope to many. Internally, we can also make choices to emerge from the storms in our lives with gems of growth and transformation.

When faced with inner turmoil, the mind starts working overtime to makes sense of things. In an effort to create a sense of inner security, the ego tries to find something or someone external to hold responsible for the situation we find ourselves in. The mind will ruminate endlessly over issues, creating a negative vortex that sucks us into the lower frequencies of anger, blame, judgment and despair.

Yet we do not have to go there!

It is the egoic mind’s attempts to make sense of things from a limited perspective that sucks us into the vortex. We can recognize instead that our perspective on the situation reflects only our limited understanding of the situation. We do not know all the facts, neither are we privy to the thoughts, desires and intentions of others – including the higher perspective of the Divine. From this limited position, any judgment would be based on limited information and therefore prone to error.

As long as we resist circumstances, our resistance will in fact cause the situation to persist and even escalate. It is only by surrendering to a Higher Power, that we are able to find peace. How about trying to surrender the pain, the confusion, the anger, the fears? By surrendering these to the Divine, we are surrendering to the Life Force of the Universe instead of resisting it.

Surrendering does not mean passivity. It is a change of perspective that says instead, “I do not understand all the aspects of this situation, but I trust in the ultimate benevolence of a Higher Power. I therefore surrender this emotion, situation or event to the Divine Power underlying all things, and thereby place my trust in all things to work out for the highest good of all concerned.”

The act of surrender frees us from the trap of judgment and blame. It enables us to integrate the shadow emotions of fear, anxiety and more into the light of compassion. When we surrender these, the realization arises that it is not our responsibility to judge ourselves or others. Our responsibility is a much more joyous one – being kind to all life.

It is a simple responsibility, even if not always an easy one. When we shift our perspective to that of kindness, we find compassion for ourselves and others. We are able to trust in the perfect unfoldment of all that is needed for our growth and well-being amid the turbulence of change, and this realization brings about a profound sense of peace.

Finding Wholeness In A Fragmented World

Finding Wholeness In A Fragmented World
By Ada Porat

The modern world is marked by breathtaking rates of fragmentation and change. According to the National Geographic Magazine, fragmentation in nature (the breaking up of large habitats into smaller, isolated chunks) is one of the main forms of habitat destruction, and the primary reason biodiversity on the planet is in decline.

Humans on the planet are affected by this and other forms of fragmentation at all levels of life and society. Life is no longer governed by rites of passage. Fragmentation has filtered into every sphere of existence and affects every level of being. And yet, amid the emptiness of a splintered society, the drive toward wholeness beats within the human heart, contradicting all external demands of fragmentation to dissect, separate and isolate.

The dream of the human heart is that life may complete itself in some meaningful pattern before death. When isolated from the concept of a Higher Power that lends context, this search for meaning may leave one deeply disillusioned. In the face of trauma and suffering worldwide, each of us needs to develop a sense of self that integrates and strengthens us.

This search for authenticity and meaning has become more complex than ever because the goal posts keep shifting. Today, there is no consensus on what used to be defined as ‘good’ and ‘evil.’ Instead, secular humanism has replaced traditional faith on college campuses, in schools and in the media. Within the span of a single generation, relativism replaced belief in an Absolute, Higher authority to become the secular religion of the age. In the view of relativism, perception is reality and each individual has the right to not only perceive, but to act out their particular version of reality. Free speech without the acceptance of a Higher Power degenerates into a cacophony of discordant voices without meaning. As a result, the person who goes on a killing spree to ‘express’ their anger and frustration, now receives protection from the law on the premise that their actions expressed their freedom of speech.

Through iteration, the oft-repeated half-truths or slogans of the times reprogram society and damage the individual psyche’s ability to tell truth from falsehood. After all, we know that when a non-truth is repeated often enough, it becomes accepted as truth. The search for truth has become ever more challenging because in the modern global village, there are numerous voices promising instant relief, answers and success. Who do we listen to and how do we know what is true?

The fragmentation of social structure corrodes the individual’s ability to discern and align with truth. This process can be likened to what happens in the body when it is attacked by malignant cells. The malignant cells travel through the blood stream from where they deposit in the cells and organs to silently multiply, robbing the healthy cells of sustenance until they reach critical mass and destroy the very organism that has nurtured them. To the outside observer, the body under attack may appear healthy until deeper investigation reveals the presence of the insidious culprits. There may be plenty of diseased cells in a healthy-looking body. Society reflects the same dynamic – in our fragmented world, there is plenty of falsehood in the best of society, and there is plenty of truth even in the worst areas of society. It is up to the individual to discern truth from falsehood.

To some, it may appear as if the only way to survive in a fragmented world is through resistance, and so fundamentalism is born. Fundamentalism creates a faith in exclusivity and absolutism, even if it is accomplished through rigidity and control. It fragments the self further to the point that the capacity for empathy, tolerance and wholeness is lost. A psychic numbing develops which impairs discernment and compassion, and further fuels the cycle of fragmentation.

What are we to do about the fragmentation that seeps like a cancer through each element of modern life? Does our drive to survive in this fragmented world really have to threaten our health, our relationships and our families, leaving us with an eerie emptiness of spirit? Do we have to become distant, detached, and distracted from other human beings in order to survive? I believe not.

As with every experience in life, we are offered choices. We can allow life to chip away at the wholeness of our being, or we can choose to reconnect to our souls – that infinite, unlimited part of ourselves that transcends all the vagaries of life in a fragmented world. The Sufi poet Rumi invites us there when he writes:

“Out beyond ideas of wrong-doing
and right-doing there is a field.
I'll meet you there.
When the soul lies down in that grass
the world is too full to talk about.”

When we start looking for ways to re-integrate our lives, we can start healing the separation of our fragmented society. We can reclaim the delight of heart-felt love, work and play. We can learn to be at the center of swirling activity without getting fragmented.

The single most important antidote to fragmentation agreed on by all teachers of consciousness through all time, is the practice of spirituality. What is spirituality? The common view of spirituality is that it is all about God, rules and punishment. However, when we start looking deeper, it becomes clear that true spirituality is not concerned with a rigid set of rules at all; it is about clearing away layers of misperception so that truth can emerge.

There are numerous examples of individuals who found the key to unlock spirituality in their lives throughout history. It is comforting to know that the individuals we have come to know as saints were not born that way; they became saints through personal choice. It was their dedication to higher principles that transformed average people into extraordinary human beings.

In the book, 50 Spiritual Classics, author Tom Butler-Bowdon reviews the lives of individuals who found the way out of fragmentation and into wholeness. Malcolm X, for example, was a petty criminal whose religious conversion turned him into a voice for black empowerment; St Augustine lived for cheap entertainments and sex until he moved through a period of great soul-searching and eventually became a father of the Catholic church; Richard Alpert gave up his Harvard career as psychology professor to become Ram Dass, master meditator and Eastern spiritual guru; Francis of Assisi was the son of a well-off businessman who threw away his inheritance in order to commune with nature and reinvigorate the church.

Each of these individuals came to the realization that only a complete commitment to a higher Power could shift them from psychological fragmentation to spiritual wholeness. Their stories are inspirational because they demonstrate the potential of complete transformation that is present even in people that society would normally give up on. They demonstrate the spiritual potential of you and me.

While we can have grand dreams of becoming enlightened in this lifetime, the more common reality of spiritual life really has to do with consistent daily effort to be compassionate and to stay attuned to right principles. These truths are taught by all great teachers of spirituality. In his autobiography, Gandhi accredited his daily habits of dietary restriction, celibacy and simple living for decades with transforming him from a self-absorbed young man into a symbol of selflessness and human freedom.

Another practical outcome of developing spirituality is the ability to live in the moment. The Buddhist practice of mindfulness aims toward this goal by endowing even the smallest acts of daily life with significance; every moment is considered precious.

Belief in something greater than oneself forms the essence of traditional religion; that is why it is powerful. True spirituality takes the notion of a Higher Power one step further to become a personal knowing. That is what Carl Jung meant when he was asked whether he believed in God and he replied, "I don't believe - I know."

And yet the pathway of true spirituality is not for the faint-hearted. In the books of Carlos Castaneda, Don Juan teaches that a human being only really becomes a whole person when they stop being a mere reflection of their culture and master their own mind. That means cutting through the conditioning of society to reclaim our forgotten fragments.

Along this journey from fragmentation to wholeness, we may find ourselves asking the age-old question, “Why am I here?” Spiritual teachings throughout history grappled with this and voice the same conclusion across all faiths and timelines. Over nine hundred years ago, the Muslim scholar Al-Ghazzali taught that men and women were created to achieve greater knowledge of God, and that happiness was dependent on increasing this knowledge. The Jewish system of Kabbalah teaches that God created mankind in order to be made complete - the unfolding of the universe literally depends on the fulfillment of each person's unique potential.

The discovery of one’s life purpose, then, becomes the defining event in anyone's life, regardless of how long the discovery takes. Mother Teresa's calling to help the poor of Calcutta came comparatively late in her life, but the clarity of her mission saw her go from being a modest school principal to becoming a global spiritual entrepreneur within fifteen years.

In the hands of a person who has clarity about their life purpose, worldly power can become an extraordinary tool driven by spiritual conviction. In fact, that sense of spiritual purpose fuels the process of spiritual evolution and is a prerequisite for evolution at every other level. Ken Wilber, one of the prominent spiritual voices of our time, has said that evolution of the human species will only occur when we give as much recognition to personal development as we have done to the manipulation of matter.

Humans are essentially spiritual beings inhabiting human bodies. The evolutionary journey of the soul, therefore, goes hand in hand with emotional healing. Each fragmented part of the soul is connected with an emotional pattern like anger, resentment or fear that relates to the fragmenting experience. As we heal painful emotions and bring more conscious awareness into our choices, we transcend limiting beliefs and open to new possibilities. This process of re-integration through emotional healing enables more of the soul to be present in the body, which raises consciousness and flows increasing amounts of love, compassion and joy into our lives.

Another critical ingredient in the process of reclaiming wholeness, is the ability to tell truth from falsehood. Kinesiology muscle testing provides a reliable method for discerning truth from falsehood and is one of the most valuable ingredients in any spiritual seeker’s toolbox.

We can reclaim the innate wholeness of our souls through many other practices such as yoga, prayer or meditation. When we engage in such practices, we experience being pulled through life, not pushed; going with the flow instead of fighting the current; being responsive rather than reactive.

Re-integration also requires that we reclaim our relationship with our bodies; the physical vehicles that carry us through life. Each of us experiences life through this unique latticework of energies that is innately designed to facilitate self-healing. The body’s fields are attuned to earth’s electromagnetic, gravitational, and nuclear fields, emitting electromagnetic energy and light.

In the world of high technology, we swim in a sea of energy that is almost totally man-made. These external, manmade electromagnetic fields can wreak havoc with biological systems that are not designed to adapt so rapidly.

We need to maintain the structural and functional integrity of our biological systems by taking conscious action to strengthen the body’s innate energy pathways. One of the easiest solutions is to invest in regular energy work to help maintain the body’s functions. We can also minimize exposure to harmful electro-magnetic fields; learn how to clear, strengthen and balance the body’s energy systems; and maintain the physical body with proper food, rest and exercise.

In a world fragmented at every level, the call is sounding for global healing through re-integration. The outcome of life on the planet is not written yet – it depends on the choices of every individual everywhere. What will your response be?

Burning Bright Without Burning Out

Burning Bright Without Burning Out
By Ada Porat

News reports remind us daily of the needs of vast populations around the globe, compelling us to do something about it, to make a difference in the world around us.

It is an innate human trait to help where and how we can. And yet, the needs of loved ones and friends can feel overwhelming at times.

How much should you do?

In responding to calls for help, how do you find balance between burning brightly and burning out? What puts you at risk for burning out, and how can you best prevent it?

Burnout can be described as a mismatch between an individual and their environment that causes long term distress. We are most at risk for burning out when there are mismatches between the reality of life as it is and our expectations around it. In other words, we can get so caught up in the process of doing that we lose sight of the big picture and forget why we got involved in the first place.

We may get so caught up on the process that we don’t make time for rest, regeneration and connection with our Higher Self and others. When this happens, we lose the delicate balance between external needs and our internal sense of purpose and identity. In our efforts to meet external needs, we neglect the most important need of all: the need to stay connected to our inner truth.

In burnout, we find joy smothered by the heaviness of negative emotions. Instead of enthusiasm, we start feeling powerless and lose our drive. And unless we realign with our core values, expectations, and support system, stress can reach levels that manifest as declined performance, physical ailments or conflict in relationships. Life appears unmanageable and our problems overwhelming.

If this description sounds familiar, don’t despair! It is not the circumstances that have changed to project gloom and doom, but the perceptions of the mind in burnout. It is important to recognize that you alone are responsible for giving too much for too long, resulting in this state. Now that you are aware of it, you can make new choices to rekindle the flame of passion for life!

When one’s life force energy burns brightly, life looks completely different. We find that our thoughts, emotions and actions flow easily from our alignment to a Higher purpose. We feel energized by the activities of life and are so engrossed in the moment that time literally flies by. We are filled with the positive attitude of “can-do” that leads to positive achievement. We are renewed by hope, dreams, confidence and faith – in short, we are in love with life! And because we move with the flow of life, we feel connected to everything around us.

How do we recover from burnout or better yet, become immune to its insidious effects? The answer can be captured in one word: realignment. Recovery from burnout requires that we look at where we strayed off the path of alignment to our innate rhythm and balance, so we can navigate our way back. Recovery requires of us to reconnect with three core areas: our values, expectations and support community.

Realign with your values

Take time out to clarify why you are so involved. Are you doing it from a place of guilt, duty or because others expect you to? If so, it is time to clarify what your own purpose and values are. True happiness and fulfillment come when we live in alignment with our core values, because our values drive our behaviors. When our actions are not in alignment with our core values, it leads to friction and stress. We often rationalize that we will take care of our own needs after we have met the needs around us, when in reality it should happen the other way round. We need to align with our values first; then we can reach from that place of personal strength to help others.

Realign your expectations

Are you involved because others expect it of you? Decide who is responsible here – you are not responsible for another’s life, choices, or lack of responsibility. Instead, you are responsible for your own life, including the choices you make. Let go of the illusion that you can control circumstances and outcomes. Know what is feasible for you to contribute and do those things; then let the others go! You are not responsible for everything, so let go and let God. By letting go of unrealistic expectations, you conserve your energy and power to focus on what you can do.

Realign to your support system

People and activities that allow us to simply be, have great restorative value. It is important to stay connected with people who know you well. They can give support and encouragement when you are running on empty, or serve as a neutral sounding board at the end of a rough day. Plan time to reconnect with your inner child and leave the cares of adulthood behind for a time of carefree play. Go for long walks and reconnect with the restorative power of nature. Take time to enjoy the simple pleasures of life: eat, laugh and dance. Let the rhythm of simple activities restore your soul. Take time out to nurture your soul through prayer, meditation or contemplation. Banish negative self-talk from your life. Instead, engage in positive self-talk and affirmation of your abilities.

When you take time to renew yourself in these three areas, you will find yourself better able to live in the moment. Your light will shine brightly to bring hope, laughter and comfort to others. And in the process, let that radiance splash all over you as well!

Making Optimal Decisions - The Convenience Factor

Ada Porat - Monday, September 08, 2008
By Ada Porat

On a recent flight, I had an interesting conversation with a fellow passenger. She told me about the difficulties she was facing, having to return to the workplace after many years as a stay-at-home mom. She had been living off the insurance settlement from an accident, but recently had to drain this fund to cover medical expenses and she could no longer make ends meet.

Although she had been well-educated and successful in the workplace earlier in life, she now was at a complete loss about what to do. Should she return to teaching, or apply for a job in a bank, or just take a part-time job in real estate, she wondered. Clearly, she was confused.

I asked her what type of activities made her feel happy and alive.

“Oh, I love being with people, doing creative things, and being a part of the action,” she said.

I asked her if there were any opportunities in her home town where she could work with people doing creative things while earning a living.

“Oh yes,” she said, “There is a wonderful program at the Arts League that offers creative workshops. In fact, I volunteer there two days a week.”

She continued, enthusiastically telling me all about the innovative programs the league offered, and mentioned that they were looking for a new creative arts director.

“Have you applied for the position?’ I asked.

She looked at me with an expression of horror. “Oh no,” she said, “If I do that I’ll have to get up early in the morning – I could never do that any more. It’s too inconvenient!”

Clearly, there was something amiss with the priorities in her life. She felt stuck, yet every option she considered, was quickly dismissed as being too inconvenient, too low-paying, or lacking in some other area. She was victimized by her own confused priorities.

Our conversation left me reflecting on the confusion I so often observe in clients when they are faced with major decisions.

That confusion is rooted in a lack of clear priorities. When our needs, wants and desires all clamor to be met, we are often at a loss about what to do. In the confusion, it is easy give in to the desire for instant gratification and indulgence. Unfortunately, such choices do not bring long-term satisfaction or results.

Clearly, we need some guidelines for the important decisions in our lives.

The most important decisions in your life should be made not by what is convenient, but by what is appropriate. The appropriate decision may be downright inconvenient, yet it could be essential to moving forward. The passenger on the flight had all the skills for the position she described, yet she was not willing to move beyond her comfort zone to get out of her financial dilemma.

Being willing to face inconvenient truths and to take appropriate action, is an important first step. But how do you know what is appropriate for your situation?

The appropriate choice will always be aligned with your core values, not with the endless desires of the ego. It is your core values that drive your behaviors; they determine what you need to do, say or align with to ensure inner harmony. When your choices align with your core values, you will experience inner congruence even in the face of adversity because you are being true to your core.

Decision-making is actually easy when there are no discrepancies in your value system. To make empowering choices, it is necessary to understand your core values. Whenever your choices are not aligned with your core values, you will feel dissatisfied with the outcome in the long run. You will also find it difficult to stand your ground when the going gets tough, because you won’t be prepared to make sacrifices for things you don’t really believe in.

Here are some pointers for appropriate decision-making:

Recognize that every choice has an impact on your life.

Every decision either carries you toward your ultimate life purpose, or acts as a diversion. Ask yourself if your decision is taking you closer to your ultimate goal. If not, it is a distraction, no matter how good it feels or how much you want it! Releasing the distractions in your life will move you closer to your ultimate life purpose.

Discover your core values and honor them.

Your core values drive your behavior. Take time to identify the values that drive your life. Do you strive for honesty at all times, or is it more important for you to have harmonious relationships with others? Are you motivated by your inner truth, or by a sense of accomplishment? Defining your core values is one of the most important exercises you can do. Then, make choices based on your core values; not on shoulds, coulds, woulds, musts or wishes.

Always honor your integrity.

Place your integrity first, your needs second and your wants last. In such a priority system, your choices will honor the spiritual core of your Being. Alignment to your spiritual core acts as a powerful attractor field to draw into your life helpful people, synchronicities and situations. In this way, your needs will always be met! Christ gave his followers that assurance when He said, “Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and all these things shall be added unto you.”

Let your Higher vision clarify your intention.

Before making important decisions, take time to reflect on your ultimate intention. What is your true intention? Would your intended choice cause harm to others? (I am not referring here to upsetting their egos!) Remember that your soul is ultimately interested in your growth, not in maintaining your physical comfort zone. Alignment with Higher vision will give you a sense of inner peace and confidence; not necessarily convenience or comfort.

Get comfortable with change and chaos.

Change is an inescapable part of life, and it can be chaotic. There is no guarantee that making the appropriate choices will bring you instant reward or success. In fact, sometimes the choice to honor your inner truth will ruffle feathers around you! Honoring your truth may not be comfortable for some, because the light of truth tends to expose the dust bunnies of pretense and illusion.

Never mind! Ultimately, making the appropriate choice is its own reward. Living in integrity with your values aligns you with your Inner direction and the Source of your power. When you honor that Guidance in your daily decisions, life really rocks!
